"In my picture of the world there is a vast outer realm and an equally vast inner realm, between these two stands man, facing now one and now the other" (Jung, Modern Man In Search Of A Soul, 1933).
Within my work, I create spaces that reflect the tension between the formidable power of the natural world and the individual's inherent vulnerability. In the face of daunting personal, societal, political, and environmental challenges, I focus my practice on the energetic resonance and repercussions of moving through and within these realities. I employ metaphors of imagined geological and atmospheric upheavals to depict human emotions and sensations through abstract gestures. I am interested in how our internal landscape is affected by the forces of external realities, and how this can manifest visually through the experience of painting.
As our external realities become increasingly more hostile, it seems appropriate to conjure forces of nature to reflect the fragile state of our inner worlds. With a predisposition for anxiety, the creation of my work is the imperative externalization of what feels like a fiery rumble that never quiets.
